Catherine Tate is the Doctor's new companion!

by sminchin @ 2007-07-04 - 10:45:05

No, this isn't an old story, it turns out that they're going to bring back Donna from the last Christmas special and make her the new assistant for all of the next series - not too sure how I feel about this decision

I know what you mean Sminchin. I hope it doesn't turn into Will and Grace series 6 where every guest star you can imagine made a brief appearance.

Having said that she took a good role in the Christmas special, although I hope they don't make it too comic.

Also, I don't think I'd be too chuffed if I was the current assistant who was clearly shunted sideways for a bigger name.

That's exactly it, they seem to be crow-barring star names in instead of using new actors *sigh*

I just can't watch Catherine Tate without thinking she's going to start saying "Bovvered?" to everything

As for Freema, I hope she does well on Torchwood, it should give her an opportunity to develop the character of Martha on a more adult-oriented programme

Is it only me in the whole wide world who doesn't like Catherine Tate and found her Dr Who and Comic Relief special things cringeworthingly unfunny?

I thought the Doctor Who / Comic Relief thing was funny but that was a one-off for charity, I don't want her as the new assistant!

Actually, I will probably be boo-ed out of town, but I don't find her comedy very funny either. She just rehashes the same joke time after time.

You're right, she does over-work her catchphrases but she's not the only one to do that.

Either way - I don't want her as the new assistant...

No, she isn't but somehow Kevin's "its SO UNFAIR" is way funnier than her "whatEVer". Maybe I'm sexist or something.

No, I agree. Unfortunately, I don' think the Beeb is going to listen to either me or thee. :(

I've made a comment on the Beeb's website about it, seems we're not the only ones who don't like the decision...

Well, then, perhaps they might write her out after a couple of episodes if she proves unpopular.

I likke Catherine Tate and enjoyed the christmas special but I am not sure that she should be the onyl full time assistant. I dont mind famous cameos (I am looking forward to Kylie)
But I think the assistnat role sould go to a 'normal' actress/actor and give them a chance for fame

They have to be good looking though

What about the girl who played Sally Sparrow? Think she'd be really good.

Just give her the benefit of the doubt, I'm sure she'll try her best

P.S. How come you're writing on this very old post?
